About us
Toruńskie Wódki Gatunkowe is a distillery with over 135 years of history.
The alcoholic beverages produced here before World War I were known and awarded in Europe, they also made their way to Africa and Asia as well. Today, in the buildings that remember those times, we continue the work of the founders of the Torun distillery and the centuries-old tradition of Polish vodka production – as one of the last producers with domestic capital.

Mysterious beginnings
Already in the 1850s, alcoholic beverages were being produced on a semi-industrial scale in Mokre district of Toruń. The beginning of our factory was given by Jewish entrepreneurs Georg and Natan Hirschfeld.
1884
The distillery on today’s Olbracht St., modern for its time, was opened in 1884, and this date is considered the date of its beginning.
The spirits produced there were not only known in Europe, but they also made their way to Africa and Asia as well. They also won numerous awards at international exhibitions in Melbourne, Graz and Königsberg.
1890
In 1890 the factory was taken over by Wolf Sultan, a Toruń distillery magnate, lover of literature and fine beverages.
1919
Sultan continued the dynamic development of the distillery, and after that the distillery was taken over in 1919 by the Gdańsk merchant Hermann Winkelhausen, who already owned a distillery in Starogard Gdańsk.
1925
As part of the nationalization of the alcohol industry in 1925, the Torun distillery became the property of the National Treasury and has been operating under the Polmos sign since then.
The World War II
The World War II did not cause any damage to the distillery, so you can still admire the factory buildings, which are an example of well-preserved 19th-century industrial architecture.
The 50s
After the war, production was resumed, and the distinctive feature of the Toruń distillery was the high-quality spirit, which was also used by Polmos branches in other cities.
1995
In 1995, the rectification stills and equipment were modernised and the use of coal at the facility was discontinued, making it environmentally friendly. The distillery has its own deep well water intake, which is extracted from our chalk deposits at a depth of 220 metres.
2014
In 2014, under the brand name of Toruńskie Wódki Gatunkowe, the factory entered the next stage of development and along with the new name we introduced a series of exceptional products that are embedded in our tradition and distinguished by their high-quality and refined taste. Behind this enterprise stands the experience of many generations, experience which we proudly use in the creation of exceptional beverages. Our distillery itself is a complex of historic buildings more than a century old, which are still used in the production process and The distillery itself is a complex of historic buildings more than 100 years old which are still being used in the production process and which form a living museum of the history of Polish spirits distillation.
